What you will do
The Regional Stewardship Manager plays a key role within the Region, Managing the delivery of core programmes in timber marketing and harvesting, woodland creation, restocking, silviculture and the management of wild deer.
You will be responsible for monitoring performance of key programmes, ensuring our targets and wider outcomes are achieved. You will contribute to Business Planning, and in seeking ways to innovate and add value, building our resilience and sustainability.
Reporting to the Delivery Manager, you will manage a team of several people in the delivery team. A key aspect of the role is the day to day support and management of this extensive and dispersed team. You will also contribute to the South Region Leadership Team, act as deputy to the Delivery Manager and will connect, contribute to and promote a one team culture both in Region and with National Teams.
Responsibilities
Support the Delivery Team
- Line manage the Area Stewardship Managers and the Regional Deer Manager support their continued professional development, act as second manager for the foresters in Harvesting and Forest Management, promote and support an effective programme of skills development and capacity building within the team;
- Support the Delivery Manager in health and safety culture change and its development to ensure that this is at the core of all the work that we do;
- Support staff wellbeing within the team;
- Manage HR related issues affecting the team in terms of absence, conduct and support, delegating to Area Stewardship Managers where appropriate.
Manage the Delivery Programme
- Provide effective day to day support and guidance to the Delivery team;
- Monitor performance of the team and ensure programme targets are being achieved;
- In delivery of the programme, ensure relevant standards and outcomes are being achieved;
- Support the DM in preparation and monitoring of finances;
- Involvement on procurement tender evaluations as required during the year.
Stakeholder Engagement, Representation and Customer Care
- Support front line customer care, meeting periodically with main timber customers and specific stakeholders to aid the team to achieve FLS and customer priorities;
- Lead on managing complaints and issues related to delivery activities across the region.
Contribute to Wider Regional objectives
- Liaise with other team leads within the region to ensure that delivery team can continue to deliver regional and national targets,
- Support the Delivery manager, acting as their deputy when required;
- Act as the “customer” for Mechanical engineering services on behalf of the region, liaising closely with the workshop manager on fleet management issues;
- Involvement on specific national project groups as required
