BAS currently has a vacancy for a Regional Climate Change Modeller. This role is an exciting and dynamic opportunity, with involvement in multiple research projects. The post holder will be responsible for setting up simulations using Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF), to then analyse and interpret the subsequent model output using data analysis toolkits such as Python. This work will ultimately advance our understanding of the impacts of climate change on water resources of the Himalayas and the melting of ice in the polar regions. We are looking for someone with a PhD in atmospheric science or numerate field and experience in using Linux/Unix environments for running models and subsequent data analysis/visualisation. This role will also require a candidate who is able to work collaboratively with other researchers and stake holders. PurposeOpportunity to contribute to a number of challenging projects focused on the past, present and future climates of remote regions, including Antarctica and the Himalayas. Your investigations will use the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. You will be required to set up simulations using WRF, and analyse and interpret the subsequent model output using data analysis toolkits such as Python. The work will advance our understanding of the impacts of climate change on water resources of the Himalayas and the melting of ice in the polar regions, which are two of the biggest challenges our civilisation faces. QualificationPhD in atmospheric sciences/numerate field (or equivalent research experience). Duties- Set up required WRF model simulations.
