Our Public Realm Division ensures that the London Borough of Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for all our residents, businesses and visitors. Our Sustainability and Environment Team is responsible for our council waste strategy including recycling and local environmental quality to ensure we protect the local environment.

We are looking for a Recycling Assistant to support the Recycling Officer and wider team to implement the Council’s Waste and Recycling Strategy and support the development and delivery of key recycling and waste prevention initiatives. The role will provide the individual the opportunity to use their initiative to develop project ideas and solutions to increase recycling. The Recycling Assistant will be a key point of contact for our resident’s queries and will be required to investigate and resolve enquiries, and attend events to engage with our local residents. The Recycling Assistant will also help monitor the property assessments linked to the waste collection service change and resolve issues that arise. The post will support the delivery of various projects and campaigns, and sometimes lead on smaller ones, to promote recycling and waste reduction.

Your experience, knowledge and commitment to waste and recycling are what we are looking for to join our busy team. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about the environment and holds a strong desire to work within the waste and recycling sector. Your administration experience and communication skills coupled with your dedication to customer service will enable you to offer best solutions to our residents. The successful candidate will be required to carry out on site work monitoring the recycling services, involving independent working. An ability and willingness to work flexible hours, which may require some early mornings, weekends and evenings.
