LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

Here at Severn Trent – we are looking for a Ranger to work within our Visitor Experience Team at The Upper Derwent Valley in the Peak District near Bamford, Derbyshire.

You’ll be the first point of contact ensuring we deliver high quality conservation, recreation, and education across our sites. We’re seeking someone who has an interest in maintaining areas, such as nature reserves and sites of special scientific interest with a good understanding of contract management.

Sound like you? Then read on.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Your key accountabilities in helping us will be:

  • Working with the Site Supervisors to ensure that site capital maintenance works are well communicated to all local stakeholders and coordinated from a health and safety perspective.

  • Working with contractors to ensure that work is completed safely and to a good quality.

  • Site asset management registers are kept up to date as work is completed and as assets deteriorate to ensure maintenance work can be prioritised.

  • Practical grounds maintenance and conservation management using power tools, (strimmers, brushcutters, chainsaws etc) on primary site and secondary satellite sites.

  • Be an ambassador for Severn Trent and helping out visitors to the sites with any queries they may have

  • Managing all forms of volunteering including recruitment, work planning, supervision and managing their safety to ensure that we have a well-motivated team.

  • Being the public face of STW and being able to demonstrate first class customer service at all times

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.

We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do.

And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity; who help us do just that.

We do more, because we care.

You’ll join our team and have experience in countryside, conservation, visitor and contractor management. Event organising and being familiar with outdoor sports is important for this role such as fishing, cycling and walking as this is what a lot of visitors will be doing across the areas you will be helping to maintain.

Having the ability to work with a large range of different people is important such as volunteers, contractors and partners as this will vary day to day.

A health and safety management qualification as well as some practical qualification such as chainsaws, wood chippers and trailer towing would be great too.

You’ll need to have a full UK driving license for this role as it does involve some travel to and from sites.

HOW WILL WE REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU IN YOUR RETURN

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the community in which we live.
