Ranger (FTC) x2 Residential

Are you interested in working with the local community to protect and conserve beautiful and historic landscape on the fringe of Surrey and Kent?  These posts are an opportunity to be involved at the forefront of open space management on 275 hectares of public open space that includes a National Nature Reserve, SSSI’s, chalk grassland, ancient woodland, heathland and heritage features.

You will be part of a ranger team responsible for six Open Spaces that make up the west Wickham & Coulsdon Commons in South London. You will be responsible for supervising contractors and volunteers delivering projects to conserve the important features, maintain facilities and provide a public open space service.  As part of the operational team, you will be expected to deliver annual work programmes, use tools and machinery, care for livestock, ensure safe working practice and work with children and young people.  You should have excellent communication skills to deal with the public, lead guided walks and make presentations.  You should hold an appropriate qualification (diploma or NVQ Level 2) in a land management discipline and you need to have a full driving licence. To meet the challenges of this post, you will have proven experience of practical countryside management, supervising projects and working effectively in teams and alone.

In our selection process we will be looking for one appointment to focus on woodland management and the other to focus on grassland management although experience of both for either post is of course desirable. Please state your preference in your application.
