Job Description

If you want to be challenged and are passionate about conservation then come and join our motivated Area Team.

This is the place to live if you enjoy long hot summers, cold winters, big skies and sweeping wide open landscapes encompassed by the highest mountains in New Zealand. Opportunities abound if you are an outdoors person and we have cafes and movies too.

This position is part of the Twizel Biodiversity Assets Team working on a mix of predator control and threatened species (mainly invertebrates, fish and lizards) survey, monitoring and management. The position will include the collection of large amounts of GPS based field data and the Ranger will be required to maintain accurate, up-to-date records and databases.

The successful applicant will be highly motivated, innovative and physically fit. They will have excellent field and practical skills, experience in ATV and 4WD use and be used to working in open environments in a range of different climatic conditions. The position calls for experience in control of a wide range of predator species using a variety of techniques or a strong willingness to learn these skills. A passion for and experience in endangered species management is essential while an understanding of braided river environments is highly desirable.

This position would either suit someone with strong predator control skills who is keen to develop their threatened species management experience or a person with extensive experience in managing a broad range of species but who has some background in trapping and is enthusiastic to progress this area of species management.

The ability to work solo or in a team environment, and to develop and maintain good working relationships with other staff, the public and key stakeholders is necessary.
