Do you want to apply your ecological research and data skills to help scale rewilding?  Do you want to bridge the academic and applied worlds? Are you interested in deploying advances in technology and computation to generate metrics of ecological change that can help make nature recovery investable? Does the idea of developing data products that will create a nature-based land economy excite you?

Ecosulis is looking for an accomplished, technically gifted, innovative and pragmatic quantitative ecologists with strong data science to join our CreditNature innovation team.

Our vision is to accelerate nature recovery and help clients achieve their biodiversity, habitat, and landscape restoration ambitions.  We offer a suite of services including spatial nature mapping, rewilding visioning and management, ecosystem assessment, and landscape contracting. We have significant experience and expertise in these fields through work with utility companies, government agencies, and NGO landowners. Our innovation team is currently developing a ‘CreditNature’ data project as part of broader efforts to develop private markets for natural capital credits as a means to accelerate rewilding and nature recovery. 

Duties and accountabilities will include:

  • Apply expert analytical skills in quantitative ecology, data science and management to generate innovative solutions to design challenges relating to the cost-effective measurement, quantification and tracking of key attributes of ecosystem change,
  • Develop and build data workflows, ontologies and analytical techniques to quantify ecosystem integrity and change that can be commercially scaled.
  • Demonstrable experience of productising data and evidence,
  • Develop and maintain relationships with technical, policy and client partners and collaborators,
  • Project manage the development and delivery of innovation projects, including management of junior team members.
  • Provide technical input on the development and delivery of other scalable digital ecology products and services and novel approaches to nature recovery under development.

Education, skills and experience required:

Essential

  • PhD qualification (or MSc with commensurate experience) in computational/quantitative biology, ecology/ environmental science or computer science with demonstrable expertise in quantitative ecology techniques,
  • Fluency in python and ‘R’ and standard GIS applications,
  • Experience of working with a range of cloud-based services and platforms (e.g. AWS, Google, Azure)
  • Expertise in data management, integration, analysis and visualisation,
  • Proven experience of project management and working in multi-partner teams.

Desirable

  • Proven track of academic publishing and securing grants,
  • Advanced understanding of functional/ecosystem ecology,
  • Understanding of remote sensing (and UAV) applications and techniques,
  • Understanding of ecological field techniques  
  • Experience of working in technology and/or start-up environments.
