SunPower Corp. (www.sunpowercorp.com) manufactures the world’s highest efficiency solar cells and solar panels. As SunPower continues to increase efficiency and decrease cost a number of new and custom applications for solar cells are now possible. However, a great deal of effort is required to realize these new cell products – from identifying customer requirements to prototyping to verifying manufacturing output. Taking a product from conception through manufacturing covers an extremely wide and diverse range of fields and expertise.

This role would suit a self-motivated, results-oriented individual who is comfortable communicating with a wide spectrum of departments within the organization as well as outside customers. Candidates must be comfortable with presenting wide range of concepts and results to different groups and to upper management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* New PV Cell Product Development:
Drive technical discussions with internal and external customers to establish clear product requirements. Translate customer requirements into internal Product Requirements and assess cell design impacts to module conversion, system integration, and long term reliability. Generate design FMEAs and Quality Test Plans, as well as driving new product development through a Stage Gate process when appropriate.
* Design for Manufacturing: Create specific cell designs to meet products requirements. Initiate, track, and drive rapid prototyping of custom cells builds at SunPower’s manufacturing facilities. Work with the cell process development group to develop new processes when required.
* Product Performance Verification: Run tests to validate cell performance relative to design requirements, and perform device characterization/FA activities to rapidly resolve performance anomalies and optimize product performance and reliability.
* Field Deployment of New Products: Manage field deployment of prototypes (both internal and customer-driven), and perform data collection and analysis for performance verification. In cases where field failures of new products are observed, provide on-site support, analysis, and customer support.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications
* Ability to communicate effectively with various technical and business units across the organization.
* Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes.
* Knowledge of semiconductor devices / PV cell designs, and characterization techniques.
* Familiarity with PV performance assessment techniques, especially for failure analysis.
* Some experience leading engineering teams where proficiency in a variety of engineering/technical disciplines is required.
* Clear communications skills and positive, solution-oriented approach to everyday situations.
* Logical and transparent decision making process; ability to make difficult decisions.

Interaction with Other Supporting Groups
* Program Management (PMO): Work with the PMO organization to adequately plan project timelines and resources, proactively manage critical paths, and report progress.
* Manufacturing Deployment: Coordinate with the Cell Deployment Group to transition product designs into manufacturing, and when needed, drive coordination with equipment group in the event that new production equipment is needed.
* Product/Sustaining Engineering (PE): Transfer of knowledge of new products and failure modes to Product Engineering. Provide first response to field issues for new products and guide PE team in solution finding.
* Reliability: Work with reliability group to address product reliability. This includes developing FMEAs and QTPs.
* Quality: Coordinate with, and provide support to the Quality team to resolve issues surrounding product failures. Manage technical aspects of corrective and preventative actions when appropriate.
