Project Research Officer

The RSPB is offering a fantastic opportunity for a Project Research Officer to provide technical project support to a new project in Liberia, which forms part of the RSPB's transboundary Greater Gola Landscape Programme. The Greater Gola Landscape, spanning forest in southern Sierra Leone and neighbouring Liberia comprises the largest remaining expanse of the Upper Guinea rainforest Biodiversity Hotspot (over 350,000 hectares). The RSPB is working with BirdLife partners, governments and local communities in both Liberia and Sierra Leone to protect this unique area.

The work across this landscape is steadily expanding and we need a Project Research Officer to provide critical technical support a new a cocoa feasibility study in Liberia, funded through the UK government Partnerships for Forests Programme.

We are looking for a Project Research Officer with experience of providing leadership in the implementation of field activities and field research with excellent organisation and communication skills. We would especially encourage you to apply if you have:

-Experience of delivering tropical field research, ideally some in West Africa

-Technical knowledge of developing tropical field research methods and plans

-Skills in GIS and data analysis

-Ability to build strong relationships and partnerships with stakeholders, being sensitive of the local context

-Ability to work flexibly and be adaptable and to manage changing work pressures

-Experience of working in tropical agricultural landscapes esp. cocoa growing areas of cocoa farming and production

We expect the post to spend 50% of their time overseas leading field research and supporting the teams on the ground in Liberia.
