Description |
MSC operates the world’s most recognised fisheries certification and eco-labelling programme. We celebrate, promote and add value to sustainable fisheries and through the leadership of our partners, create market incentives to encourage other fisheries to improve the way they fish the oceans. Over 300 fisheries around the world, landing 12 % of the annual global harvest, are now engaged at some stage of the MSC’s independent assessment process. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries. The MSC is working on scaling-up the impacts of its program with a stronger focus on increasing the participation of fisheries in the developing world. There is an urgency to this work as fisheries in developing countries are some of the most at risk of overfishing; yet these fisheries play a critical role both in terms of food security and in providing livelihoods for coastal people. Most developing world fisheries are at some distance from meeting our Fisheries Standard and we therefore need to further innovate to improve the way we work. “Vis VoorGoed / Fish for Good” is a project which aims to drive sustainable fishing in three distinct regions in the Global South: Indonesia, South Africa and Mexico. In each of these three regions MSC will collaborate with local partners to enhance the sustainability of fishing activities, increase livelihoods in fishing communities, and generate ecological benefits for the world’s oceans. The project will be carried out between 2017-2021 with the generous funds (€1,755 million) donated by the Netherlands’ National Postcode Lottery (NPL). The RoleThe MSC is looking for an experienced and dynamic project manager, who be responsible for project management of the “Vis VoorGoed” project. Based in London, and reporting to MSC’s Head of Developing World, the Project Manager will:
In addition, you will provide central coordination across all MSC’s Project Pre-Assessments (PPA), tracking and monitoring these projects, learning what works best in what context, and providing technical support to help to ensure their success. Person profileThe MSC is looking for a highly-motivated individual who will bring substantial experience in a similar role, preferably with responsibility for managing complex projects with multiple partners. You should have an advanced degree or experience in fisheries, natural resources or environmental management, and an understanding of management issues in developing world fisheries, including knowledge of the institutional arrangements typical of small-scale fisheries. Excellent communication and people skills are essential: you should have a track record of forging and maintaining high level and successful partnership projects across different sectors, and of navigating complex and politicized stakeholder environments, and of working effectively with colleagues in an international context. You must have proven experience in building, mentoring, and coaching project teams of mixed backgrounds and experience, and with geographically and culturally diverse members. You must also be able to demonstrate your empathy and interest in the MSC’s mission and objectives. The job holder will be an integral part of the MSC team, with the opportunity to contribute significantly to an exciting milestone project for the organisation, and in co-ordinating the MSC’s burgeoning PPA program.
