Would you like to translate science into actionable strategies for climate change adaptation and natural capital projects? Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences has an immediate opening for a talented Project Manager to join our team. As one of the nation’s oldest nonprofit environmental research organizations, Manomet is dedicated to conserving natural resources for both humans and wildlife. Through science and public engagement, Manomet works to integrate society’s social, economic, and environmental values into enduring, sustainable systems that will support the needs of present and future generations. For more information, please visit our website at www.manomet.org. Position Summary The Project Manager assists in the planning and implementation of a major new project in Maine on climate change adaptation with national implications. With a $750,000 three-year grant from the Kresge Foundation, this project will build climate change resiliency into ecosystem services, such as clean water, food production, clean air, wood, flood control, space for recreation, and wildlife. We are working with four major sectors: forestry, agriculture, rural residential development, and conservation lands, and at two spatial scales: the landowner scale and the landscape scale. This project will be recognized as a source for leadership in climate change adaptation in the U.S. for rural land use sectors. Working with stakeholders in Maine, the Project Manager develops and implements practical adaptation strategies to help these sectors and landscapes become more resilient to climate change. The position reports to the Senior Program Leader for Climate Change & Energy. The position is located at Manomet’s headquarters on the bluffs overlooking beautiful Cape Cod Bay, in Plymouth, MA, 45 miles south of Boston. About Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences For 40 years, Manomet has worked to build a sustainable world based on healthy natural systems that support human and wildlife populations. We are a trusted leader in the non-advocacy use of science for problem-solving, and have a long history of working collaboratively with entities that have the capacity to leverage change. Manomet’s commitment to achieve a more sustainable world recognizes that humans are not living sustainably—that we are using resources up—and that saving nature can no longer be viewed as somehow separate from saving ourselves. If we can live sustainably, then we have a chance of saving nature as well. The natural systems that both people and wildlife depend upon are being impacted as never before by climate change, habitat loss, increased consumption of natural resources and other pressing issues. At Manomet, we are facing these challenges with optimism, using sound science, partnerships and innovative approaches to forge lasting solutions. We are committed to understanding how our economic and social well-being is linked to nature, and we are taking action through our major initiatives to bring hope for future generations. Manomet plays a special dual role in pursuing a sustainable planet. First, we convene relevant stakeholders with many different interests to chart a vision of the future they seek to create—a sustainable future. Second, we bring technical knowledge to bear on helping people take action on the future they seek to build. This special combination of both “convening” and “solving,” and being respectful of the many diverse and legitimate interests in natural resources, enables us to create enduring solutions to sustainability. About Manomet’s Climate Change Initiative Our Climate Change & Energy Initiative focuses on adaptation and mitigation strategies for human communities and wildlife habitats, as well as integrating energy infrastructure with wildlife conservation. Manomet’s Climate Change & Energy Initiative is at the forefront of developing science-based adaptation solutions to climate change in the Northeast. We are working with state and federal agencies, foundations, landowners, and NGOs to identify and implement robust approaches that will help us conserve threatened resources.
