LOT is seeking a committed project manager to manage its challenging marine conservation programmes. The project team consists of LOT Trustees and staff working in conjunction with relevant government agencies, NGOs and communities.
LOT is offering a 2 year contract, starting as soon as possible, with a benefit package that includes: local rate salary (taxes paid), housing, medical insurance and one return flight home per year. We are offering one position and will support the legal fees for one work permit, however the housing is suitable for a couple, and we warmly welcome applications from couples. The role entails: 1.Hold overall technical and financial responsibility for the project, in particular fundraising and workplan development 2.Develop and manage programs listed in LOT strategy document, ensuring delivery on the agreed workplan 3.Develop new project programs as the need arises 4. Liaise with and represent the project to Government and NGO partners at national and provincial levels 5.Develop (and subsequently manage) Cooperation Agreements between LOT and Government agencies as the need arises 6.Oversee the timely compilation of monthly reports, biannual progress reports to Trustees and meet funder report requirements 7.Develop terms of reference, recruit, train and supervise project staff 8.Manage volunteer program 9.Manage and maintain LOT property and all field and office equipment 10.Promote the development of key policies and legislation regarding the effective management of marine resources 11.Provide technical support and capacity building in research, community extension, law enforcement and site management to local marine management agencies 12.Ensure communities are engaged and maintain livelihoods in design and implementation of conservation work. You will have: •A university degree (preferably at Masters level or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (such as biology, Natural Resource Management, or fisheries/water-related discipline) •At least 3 years practical experience in managing conservation or Natural Resource Management programs or projects. Our qualification requirement may be traded for more experience. •Experience in sea turtle conservation •Experience of working and negotiating with Government officials at all levels •Significant supervisory experience, with good interpersonal, communication and diplomatic skills with the ability to manage and interact at all levels of an international, multicultural and multilingual organization •Successful fund-raising experience •Experience of working in developing countries •Clean driving license •No criminal record Essential: •Experience of working with communities •Marine field research experience •Educational experience •Understanding of development and conservation issues •Team leadership and management experience •Budget management experience •Experience in collaborative work with NGO and government agencies. •Command of English language •Good swimming ability •Report writing experience •Microsoft Office proficiency Desirable: •Handling media •Oral and Powerpoint presentation skills •Organising and leading workshops / meetings.
