Description

My client is the most forward thinking development company in the UK’s emerging PV market. They have a long standing track record and reputation in the market for delivery world class property and commercial development services in the UK as well as a very strong PV business plan and balance sheet. They have over £40mn of Assets Under Management (AUM) and have completed over 70 major transactions in the UK market. They have experience in successful developments in the global market, including Sweden, South Africa and Uruguay. Since the introduction of the Feed in Tariff (FIT), the UK’s solar market is now gaining interest from multinational solar PV companies as one of fastest growing PV markets. My client is perfectly placed to be a leader in the UK PV market advantage of this and deliver a large number of commercial and large-scale projects.  With the addition of their exciting new renewable energy arm as a major new part to their business, they are looking to recruit a Project Development Director to oversee the development of all their projects throughout the UK. The Project Development Director will provide photovoltaic solar expertise to the group and oversee relationships with all external contractors. The Project Development Director will also be responsible for overseeing project warranties & Operations and Maintenance (O&M). This is a very important role as the Project Development Director will have full profit and loss (P&L) and operations accountability. They will also oversee after-sales claim management, costs & operational coordination.

Core Criteria:
My client is seeking a Project Development Director, with a strong technical and commercial solar PV background to oversee the development of all their Solar PV projects throughout the UK. 

Responsibilities:-

  • ·         Manage the project development team responsible for the design, development and construction, grid connection and sale of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects up to financial close
  • ·         Identify, assess and create project development opportunities
  • ·         Conduct market analysis and feasibility and risk assessment studies on a daily basis
  • ·         Negotiation and acquisition of lease agreements; securing grid connections and building permits
  • ·         Proactively sourcing new potential sites for development to grow the business
  • Manage plant performances, production monitoring and forecast, meters values collection, Feed-in tariff procedure, energy sales and invoicing process
  • Provide engineering judgment to complex system issues
  • ·         Oversee all  Warranty & Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities on commercial and large-scale solar PV projects
  • ·         Monitoring of solar PV projects from a technical and commercial perspective
  • ·         Commercial management of asset (invoicing customers for energy services or Renewable Energy Credit (REC) sales)
  • ·         On-site visits and system verifications
  • ·         Manage commissioning & handover process of the PV projects
  • ·         Continuously assessing the profitability of projects and successful development, including the preparation of land for construction
  • ·         Identification of project sites, land procurement, licensing
  • ·         Feasibility studies (site qualification, etc.)
  • ·         Project negotiations (with diverse project partners like local developers, IPPs or utilities)
  • ·         Reporting to project financing managers internally and externally
  • ·         Planning and implementation of market entries
  • ·         Develop and set up strategic partnerships with utilities, project developers, IPPs
  • ·         Head up their project development efforts in the UK solar PV market
  • ·         Negotiating terms and closing deals
  • ·         Ensure all deals meet revenue and margin expectations
  • ·         Proactively sourcing new projects to grow the business
  • ·         Develop and set up the O&M offering in the UK solar PV market with the chosen EPC contractor
  • Coordination of contracts and liaising with subcontractors
  • Due Diligence relating to specific projects, potential contractors and new projects
  • Participating in the draw up of bid documents and contracts
  • Evaluating and selecting offers from contractors
  • Planning and organizing of projects
  • Full responsibility of the commercial, technical and organisational interests on site
  • Supervise and oversee all commercial matters
  • Support for projects in the project development phase
  • Liaise with onsite project developers, project managers and construction managers to ensure punctual completion of solar PV projects

Education:-

  • ·         Strong educational background, undergraduate degree in engineering and/or business related field

Core Requirements:-

  • ·         Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in development, with a proven track record in the development of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. The chosen candidate will be a proven expert in the field of development and management of solar PV projects above 1MW in size. Candidates without this particular type of experience cannot be considered
  • ·         Commercial contract negotiation delivery experience
  • ·         Must have a good knowledge of design, O&M, reliability and performance of PV systems
  • ·         Practical experience with solar systems and components
  • ·         Must have a strong understanding of technical matters, the ability to think in economic perspective and experience of project development
  • ·         Good understanding of regulatory requirements in the solar industry

General Requirements:-

  • ·         Willingness to travel to sites around the UK
  • ·         Ability to manage multiple projects in an environment of constantly changing priorities
  • ·         Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and detecting realistic solutions
  • ·         Proven ability to communicate across all levels of an organization
  • ·         Ability to manage multiple projects

Ability to manage a multi-cultural workforce

Key Skills:

Solar PV, strong engineering and/ or business related background, experience in the development of commercial and large-scale solar PV projects , experience with O&M contracts, team leadership and complex stakeholder and customer management experience, ability  to create an grow a new business or function.
