Description

We are seeking an organised, proactive and adaptable individual to join our growing Business and Biodiversity Programme as a Programme Officer. This role will work in close collaboration with other programmes at UNEP-WCMC to implement projects supporting improved biodiversity management by the financial and business sectors

Our team’s focus is on strengthening the role of natural capital in private sector decision making. We work to change the business case for biodiversity management; deliver the knowledge, data, tools and approaches for mitigating impacts and restoring biodiversity; and ensure businesses and their influencers have the capacity to act.

Working with financial institutions, and their stakeholders, for example governments and businesses, you will support the development of tools, standards, methodologies and metrics to enable the integration of biodiversity and natural capital into financial decision making.

You will be a capable project manager, able to work flexibly in response to developments in this fast-moving field and with a demonstrated ability to deliver high quality outputs. A clear and compelling communicator, you will be comfortable engaging with a range of audiences and stakeholders.

We will provide you with the opportunity to work on high impact projects, where your work really makes a difference to the field of conservation by helping address the impacts and dependencies of businesses on biodiversity and natural capital. Our team includes leading experts working on novel developments to assess the materiality of biodiversity and natural capital to businesses and financial institutions. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including generous pension contributions.

WCMC is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all staff and job applicants. We aim to create a supportive and inclusive working environment in which all individuals are able to make best use of their skills, free from discrimination or harassment, and in which all decisions are based on merit. We do not discriminate against staff on the basis of age; race; sex; disability; gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity; religion; faith or belief. We shortlist without using the personal information that you provide as part of the recruitment process. Therefore, please do not include a photograph in your cv or we may automatically reject your application.

WCMC attaches great importance to addressing safeguarding and ethical considerations in all activities carried out by its staff, including where partner organisations or individuals are part of the delivery of our work. This includes children and vulnerable adults in the community who may be vulnerable to abuse. WCMC act with integrity, are transparent and expect applicants to share the same values.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post where you can work at the interface between the financial and business sectors and biodiversity, we want to hear from you. Please complete our application form and personal details form and send it together with your CV and a short covering letter through the link on our website by 9am Wednesday 21st July. Face-to-face (remote) interviews are expected to take place 3rd and 4th August.

Please note that this is a position with WCMC the UK-registered charity and is not a position working for the United Nations. It is a UK based role and the successful applicant will be expected to reside within commuting distance of Cambridge and within the UK. Some of our roles are eligible for visa sponsorship, providing the relevant sponsorship criteria are met.
