Description

We are looking for a skilled and highly organised individual, committed, confident and capable of leading projects and managing staff, to join the team for 18 months. The post holder should have excellent written skills, be able to synthesize technical information for policy-makers and be capable of delivering high quality outputs. We anticipate an individual with the ability to draw on their existing experience to be able to make an immediate and significant contribution to the work of UNEP-WCMC.

UNEP-WCMC’s Ecosystem Assessment and Policy Support Programme develops, facilitates and supports the Centre's engagement with intergovernmental processes relevant to biodiversity and ecosystem services, including by an increased use of science and other forms of evidence in policy development and implementation. We host the Technical Support Unit on policy support tools for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES.) The Unit is responsible for overseeing the work of an IPBES task force and for supporting delivery of those activities and outputs assigned to the task force.

The key areas of responsibility for the role are:

  • Leading or making substantial contributions to the delivery of outputs that support the implementation of the mandate received from IPBES Plenary in relation to policy support
  • Liaising and managing relationships with key partners and stakeholders
  • Analysing and synthesising information and data from multiple sources in order to produce well written and succinct outputs
  • Undertaking research and overseeing delivery of high quality technical reports and policy-relevant analyses liaising across programmes with Centre staff and with external stakeholders, Organising and facilitating delivery of workshops and other expert meetings, including remotely, as appropriate

You will have:

  • Demonstrated experience at national or global level relevant to the scope of the work of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services and other related intergovernmental processes,
  • Proven familiarity with key environmental issues including those relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services
  • Demonstrated experience of researching complex information and presenting it in a clear way for other audiences
  • Demonstrated experience of engaging with and building collaboration amongst diverse stakeholders
