Based in the Development & Asset Strategy Team and blending home, office and on-site working, this is a fantastic opportunity to lead a small but dynamic team, in a truly forward thinking and values driven organisation. You will play an important role in reducing SYHA’s environmental impact, reducing fuel poverty and will make a real contribution to addressing the Climate Crisis.

Job Description:

• Starting on £40,520 per annum, pro rata
• 37 Hours per Week (Monday to Friday)
• 50 / 50 working from home / in the office split
• 27 days holiday, plus 8 bank holidays, plus 4 SYHA days at Christmas, Easter, Spring and August Bank Holiday (all pro rata). The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st March.

More about the role:

• You will lead and create the Fabric First retrofit programme to improve the energy efficiency of our homes. This includes building a professional network and supply chain to deliver at scale for future programmes.
• You will support work on the technical and financial aspects of this work, and importantly engage with our people and our customers.
• You will ensure Value for Money and optimise financial resource wherever possible.
• You will lead on funding submissions and ensuring all requirements of the funding are vigorously followed.
• Beyond the retrofit challenge you will also have a chance to get involved in and make a difference in other key areas such as our newbuild home programme and our corporate activities.

Main Tasks:

• To provide exceptional leadership for the decarbonisation programme and line management of Project Coordinators (currently there is one Project Coordinator).
• To identify funding opportunities and lead bids to contribute to improving the carbon footprint of our homes and our operations.
• To form fruitful partnerships and build a robust professional network to aid delivery.
• To manage budgets brilliantly.
• To represent SYHA at meetings with local authorities, and other potential partners, promoting the organisation positively whilst maintaining good work relationships.
• To influence other key members of staff to ensure buy in across SYHA
• To participate in training relevant to the post, in particular Equal Opportunities Training.
• To carry out other tasks related to sustainability reasonably requested by the department managers.

Other Features of the job:

• Attendance at evening meetings is unusual, but where required time in lieu will be granted.
• Motor transport is required. An Essential Car Used Allowance is payable.

Specialist knowledge, analysis and communication are critical skills. Someone with real passion and commitment to make a difference will excel in this role. We are looking for someone who:
• Has a passion to make a difference to the Environment, can build rapport with, inform, inspire & support teams & individuals across SYHA, and also our customers (tenants)
• Has great communication & presentation skills, written and oral, and communicates in an accessible & engaging way.
• Walks the walks and can drive forward Sustainability at SYHA whilst remaining sensitive to competing priorities, to deliver workable and effective solutions on the ground.
• Has a relevant qualification in the field of Environmental, Sustainability science/management, and/or, a significant track record working in this sector.
• You have great organisational and observational skills
• You’re a ‘completer finisher’ that ties up all loose ends
• You’re passionate about customer service
• You enjoy solving problems in a fast paced environment
• You’re a self-starter that is happy working alone and in teams
