C3 is currently recruiting for a Programme Coordinator and Programme Officer for its Madagascar Programme to start in April 2009. This new office will focus on capacity-building, research and awareness-raising in coastal communities with an emphasis on long-term coastal zone management support both within and outside marine protected areas.
A major priority will be the development of species conservation action plans for endangered marine species, including dugongs and sea turtles, utilising local environmental knowledge in combination with conventional scientific research. Working closely with the national government, local and international research institutions and community groups, the programme will develop and implement sustainable actions for marine biodiversity conservation and economic development in marginalised regions.
