The Program Officer will support CI's strategic objectives through the Conservation Leadership Programme, a capacity-building program that develops the technical and leadership skills of young conservationists through awards, training and advice. The Program Officer will work with a remote team of four to help advance strategic alliances with three other key international conservation NGOs (Birdlife, FFI and WCS) at a global and regional level. They will be responsible for coordinating an active alumni network of approximately 1000 individuals and will also work to ensure that CLP activities contribute to capacity-development priorities within Conservation International.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate activities of the CLP Alumni Network, including program development, disbursement of small grants and learning exchange/mentoring program for CLP alumni.
Assist with coordinating logistics for an annual two-week international training course (held in conjunction with the Society for Conservation Biology Annual Meeting) and other short training courses.
Promote the CLP within CI and to external audiences through participation at conferences and events.
Coordinate proposal review process for annual conservation awards between CI, the CLP team, reviewers and selection committee, specifically focusing on cultivating relationships with and increasing involvement of applicable CI staff.
Work with CLP team and key CI staff to expand the reach of the program in priority places, identify local capacity building needs and create linkages between CLP, CI and other partners to address capacity needs to meet conservation objectives.
- Address general inquiries; advise and assist applicants to the CLP Awards, and provide ongoing support and advice to award-winning teams and individuals.
Working Conditions: Some international travel required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills: Bachelor's degree in relevant field (life or social sciences, environmental studies, etc.)
Fieldwork experience in international conservation and development sector.
Ability to understand and accept changes in priorities and adapt to different people and situations easily.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and allocate time effectively against competing demands.
Ability to work independently, prioritize and take the initiative to get a job done in a timely fashion.
Ability to work in different institutional environments (corporate, nonprofit, university).
Excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomatic skills.
Excellent spoken and written English.
Computer literacy to a high level.
