Description

The Tetepare Descendants' Association (TDA) www.tetepare.org are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to assist with their management of their grassroot conservation project in the Solomon Islands. TDA represents over 3000 traditional owners of the largest uninhabited island in the South Pacific. The 120 sq km rainforest island is protected for artisinal use by landowners and conservation of 3 turtle species and other rich marine and forest biodiversity.

 

The TDA Program Manager will be responsible for overall management of the association including applying for conservation and ecotourism grants, managing staff, financial and program reporting and staff mentoring. The applicant must have business management experience, be highly organised, patient and committed to grassroot conservation. The role will include advertising and managing a small ecolodge on Tetepare and helping to establish a 5 day walking trail around Tetepare. The Program Manager will be hosted by WWF in the regional town of Munda for 12 months with an option to renew for a further 12 months. Munda has an international airport, hospital and is a 1.5hr canoe ride to Tetepare Island

Key tasks:

1) Managing TDA grant and ecotourism finances and reporting to TDA Board  and major sponsor Conservation Agreement Fund www.conservationagreementfund.org on quarterly and annual basis

2) Applying for, and managing, grants to support TDA's conservation, sustainable livlihoods, scholarships and ecotourism operations

3) Assisting management of the Tetepare Ecolodge and establishment of the Headhunter ecotourism trail, including development of a risk management strategy

4) Overseeing maintenance of TDA assets and OH&S strategy

5) Managing key staff including annual performance reviews and regular staff meetings

6) Overseeing TDA's application and qualification for Bread for the World (www.bread.org) financing

7) Supporting TDA's application for protected area status for Tetepare Island

8) Managing TDA's scholarship scheme

9) Coordinating TDA Board meetings and Annual General Meeting

Selection Criteria

1) Business management and financial reporting experience

2) Experience with grassroots conservation programs including applying for and aquitting grants

3) Staff management experience

4) Understanding of conservation and ecotourism in the Pacific

5) Self motivated, resilient and posessing leadership skills

6) Friendly calm demeanor but ability to remain firm
