The Consortium for Ocean Leadership is pleased to announce the search for a Program Associate for the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI). This is a regular, full-time, exempt position. The position will report to the GoMRI Project Administration Manager in the Research and Education department.

This position supports the coordination of grant management administration, proposal review, post-award administration, and communication and outreach efforts for GoMRI. GoMRI is a BP-supported independent research program involving $500M over ten years to study the effect of the Deepwater Horizon incident and potential associated impact of this and similar incidents on the environment and public health, as well as to develop improved spill mitigation, oil detection, characterization, and remediation technologies.

Specific duties include:

¦       Provides support for grant administration.  Works with Contracts and Grants department to facilitate processing of grant paperwork.  Reviews reports with project statistics in order to collect needed data.  Uploads and organizes documents and images on SharePoint collaborative workspace.

¦       Works with Manager of Meetings and Travel to organize meetings of groups associated with the ongoing program, including review panel meetings and science workshops. Could include making final decisions on meeting locations, managing the meeting budget and creating the meeting agenda.

¦       Participates in and reports on meetings associated with the ongoing program.  Gathers content for program updates and helps draft text.

¦       Provides programmatic support functions such as arranging telephone, web cam, and face-to-face conferencing.

¦       Assists in maintaining the GoMRI website by gathering content from various sources.

¦       Develops supporting materials for GoMRI related activities.  Such material includes program brochures, summaries, and other marketing products.  Works closely with communications staff to coordinate the development of such materials.

¦       Facilitates and leads small groups or task forces to focus on certain GoMRI-related topics.  Identifies and gathers research materials.  Facilitates flow of information to participants.

¦       Occasionally represents Ocean Leadership and specific program during program related meetings.

¦       Represents the organization at exhibit booths at scientific conferences.  Helps set up booth and provides materials to booth visitors.

¦       Supports the activities listed in the GoMRI Education, Outreach & Communications Plan.

¦       Assists with logistics of proposal review process.  Helps coordinate the posting of an RFP, assists with intake of reviews, collates review materials, and handles logistics for panel meetings. Responsible for follow up actions after panel reviews, including drafting panel summaries.

Qualifications include:

 1) Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required and at least two years’ experience in academically focused, scientific program administration or management (or equivalent science training and management experience).  2) Familiarity with ocean science is preferred. 3) Excellent organizational skills, with an emphasis on attention to detail. 4) Excellent listening, note taking and research skills. 5)Excellent written and oral communication skills. 6) Demonstrated planning, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities; ability to work independently to prioritize work and complete projects with general direction. 7) Demonstrated initiative and creativity in suggesting and researching relevant new program concepts. 8) Ability to work as team member as well as to take leadership initiative when called upon. 9) Ability to work comfortably and pleasantly with a variety of clients, including scientists and heads of Federal agencies and academic institutions. 10) Demonstrated proficiency with all MS Office applications including word processing, database maintenance and management, e-mail, PowerPoint, and spreadsheets.  11) Additional experience with MS SharePoint is preferred. 12) Knowledge of graphics and web page layout and design preferred. 13) Ability to travel domestically and internationally when necessary.
