Description

Overview

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Role Profile

ZSL is looking for a talented conservation project manager with experience of protected area management, capacity building and an interest in online learning to help develop a new training approach for raising professional standards in conservation. You’ll oversee the online learning projects at ZSL, ensuring the team and consultants deliver content for new courses on protected area management, plus building and developing relationships with a wide variety of important stakeholders involved in this initiative, and be responsible for strategic oversight of the framework for the project.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing and growing the online learning project through strategic planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Managing and delivering the project implementation plan, assigning tasks to associated parties and ensuring that all activities meet the project aims and objectives on schedule and within budget.
  • Managing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues within ZSL, project partners and multiple stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
  • Develop new partnerships with other academic, conservation or education institutions to expand the online learning project activities.
  • With the Conservation Content Developer, the post holder will implement and further develop monitoring and evaluation for the online learning activities.
  • Report on finances, submit project progress reports, final reports and budgets to stakeholders and donor(s), and ensuring that donor expectations are met.
  • Represent ZSL externally as needed. This may include media representation (e.g. television, radio, newspapers, interviews), national and international conferences and workshops, and will be expected to deliver talks and presentations to a range of audiences.
  • Ensure that members of the project team follow administrative processes as necessary.

Person Specification

  • Extensive experience in the planning, funding, management, implementation and reporting of conservation projects is desirable
  • Proven experience and/or qualification(s) in project management and financial reporting, with a track record in delivering projects on time and in budget
  • Experience in managing relationships with multiple stakeholders and donors.
  • Experience with online and/or blended learning, or in training and capacity building, is desirable.
