The Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers. The Rainforest Alliance’s Initiative for Conservation in the Andean Amazon (ICAA) II Project works to conserve biodiversity and enhance livelihoods by supporting sustainable land management practices. The ICAA II Project is cross-cutting, involving the sustainable forestry, agriculture and tourism programs of the Rainforest Alliance. The project seeks to support the three broader objectives of the ICAA II program including: a) reduce rates of deforestation and biodiversity loss; b) enhance effective performance in key aspects of natural resource governance; and c) increased livelihood quality and sustainability. Rainforest Alliance has two distinct landscapes: Sucumbíos, Ecuador and Cusco/Madre de Dios, Peru. Position Summary:
The Productivity Associate, Coffee & Cocoa, will be responsible for providing technical support for the implementation of activities related to the agricultural component of the ICAA II Project. S/he will focus on issues of productivity and quality of coffee, cocoa or other crops to be defined in the landscape, within a framework of biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods. Additionally, the Associate will train professionals, technicians and producers in implementing sustainable agricultural practices to facilitate the process of certification to achieve Rainforest Alliance certification for cocoa and coffee and verification of climate module.
