Description

This is an exciting time to join Oxfordshire County Council as we gear up to deliver on our Climate Emergency commitments. We are seeking an exceptional individual who can help us rise to the challenges ahead.

About us:

Oxfordshire already has a strong track in terms of carbon reduction and energy innovation, and we are looking ahead to putting in place the policies and programmes to deliver on new commitments on Climate Action.

About the role:

There will be plenty for you to do, helping to put in place the right policy and strategy to drive carbon reduction across our services and functions, and supporting the organisation to deliver change, communicate and report on action.

You will play a key role in supporting the Council's ambition to become carbon neutral on its own estate and operations by 2030, and to ensure climate change mitigation and adaptation is fully considered across all the Council's areas of influence. You will support services and teams to develop the knowledge and capacity needed to decarbonise their service areas through developing policy, projects and partnerships.

You will also act as the lead adviser to the Council on low carbon policy in areas including, but not limited to, property, schools, travel, procurement, investment, planning, low carbon economy. You will be responsible for engaging and communicating the council's vision to staff, residents and partners.

With the county facing significant housing and economic growth, climate emergencies having been declared by many authorities, and a county-wide energy strategy in place, there will also be opportunities for you to work with external partners to influence change and help meet ambitions for transitioning to a low carbon economy.

About you:

We are looking for someone who has experience of delivering carbon reduction policy and strategy in a range of service areas, is able to work collaboratively across and beyond a large organisation, with excellent communication and persuasion skills and the ability to analyse, synthesize and present complex information relating to energy and carbon.

Rewards and Benefits:

It really is true that every single job role here contributes to bettering the lives of the people in our county - we want to do this for our employees too. We are proud of our strong flexible working culture, including the opportunity for flexibility on working hours and the use of technology to support agile working. We offer some of the very best learning and development opportunities to support your ongoing development.

We have a generous holiday allowance which rises as you remain in employment with us up to 32 days, as well as giving you the option to buy additional holiday. You will also have access to a Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions of up to 19.9% of your salary; a range of local and national retail discounts; and a host of enhanced family friendly policies including carers leave and paid time off for volunteering.
