A well known firm of consulting engineers requires a very experienced and highly qualified ecologist to act as Technical Team Leader for protected species within the Group. Reporting to the Portfolio Manager, the Technical Team Leader (Principal Ecologist) will drive forward its services to existing and future clients, with a specific focus on work within the water and power industries. The Technical Team currently has 12 ecologists based in three office, and he/she will be responsible for the management and delivery of projects and services within the team. The position is to provide a strong technical lead in protected species ecology. The position will involve work such as: • The co-ordination of ecological projects within his/her technical team of ecologists. • Application for NE protected species disturbance and development licenses • Environmental impact assessment • Project, finance and line management • Business development and marketing of our protected species capabilities. • Opportunity to develop his/her own specialism and offer new services across the sector and motivation to become a national player in influencing the ecology market in the UK. The successful candidate will have: • Technical leadership in protected species, and ability to address technical issues at a national level. Ideally an individual with a national or regional profile with the drive and motivation to make a difference. • Excellent protected species knowledge and experience, including being a holder of a NE European species disturbance licenses within the last 5 years. • Experience in tendering and/or managing Natural England, Defra and Environment Agency projects would be desirable. • Significant experience in the UK ecological consultancy market, with a strong external-facing, client-orientated focus. • Excellent understanding of UK nature conservation legislation. • Detailed understanding and excellent experience in EcIAs. • Good EIA experience. • Project, financial and people management experience. • Willingness and/or experience in managing and training staff. • Full member of IEEM; CEnv desirable.
