The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) is a challenging and inspiring working environment for environment professionals. We carry out multidisciplinary research, provide expert advice and solutions for environmental problems. Approximately 50 % of the funding is based on other sources than SYKE´s budget.

 

Work tasks

 

The role of the experienced principal / senior scientist is to plan, acquire and lead national and international research and development projects in the area of urban infrastructure choices, including energy and resource efficiency, and to produce knowledge and methods for land use, housing and transportation. Together with stakeholder networks the person will develop and help implement sustainable and lasting solutions around infrastructure choices.

The post is located at SYKEs Sustainable Urbanisation Programme at SYKE's Helsinki premises at the Viikki Campus of the University of Helsinki.

 

Qualifications

 

Essential criteria include a PhD in a relevant discipline, the ability to develop new research approaches using quantitative information as well as novel information and data sources (such as social media or big data). External presentation and engagement capabilities are a must. At principal scientist level additional requirements include several years' work experience in a similar role and preferably international experience. Desirable criteria include personal connections to subject specific networks and ability to supervise younger members of staff.

Previous knowledge of systemic approaches or transition literature and modelling experience and knowledge of Finnish are considered advantages. .

 

Other language skills

Excellent written and spoken English is required.

Salary

Salary is based on the level of responsibility, personal performance and career history (4275-5232 euro/ month before tax).
