Description

Postdoctorate position in Biofuels research, Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork with a particular emphasis on life cycle assessment of grass production for utilisation as a feedstock for biomethane production. 

Location:    Teagasc Johnstown Castle, Wexford, with close contact with Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork

Core Brief:

  • To conduct a Life Cycle Analysis of grass production in temperate oceanic Northern Europe;
  • To assess the carbon balance and the associated greenhouse gas emission associated with the production of grass as a feedstock for production of biogas;
  • To apply environmental impact assessments of land use options in Ireland in terms of carbon, nutrient and water efficiencies.
  • To produce the final report for the Environmental Protection Agency entitled “Compressed Biomethane Generated from Grass used as a Transport Fuel.”

Contract Start Date:      1 August 2008

Contract Completion:    31 December 2009

Contract Duration:        17 months
