The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL's national Center for Photovoltaics has an opening for a full time Postdoctoral Researcher. The assignment is for one year with possible renewal for up to a maximum of three years. The position will focus on ways to more accurately measure the performance of PV cells and modules. The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge of measurements, Labview software, and the teams knowledge of IV measurements, to extend the teams uncertainty analysis to include devices the team routinely encounters. The candidate will need to understand and follow the ISO GUM methodology for uncertainty analysis.
In addition the Measurements and Characterization Division has a full complement of characterization tools that span surface analysis, electro-optical characterization, analytical microscopy and cell and module performance. Details of our capabilities can be viewed at www.nrel.gov/pv/measurements.
•The position will evaluate the teams formal uncertainty analysis for its various test beds, expand it to include metastable materials, and multijunctions.
•Suggestions for reducing the uncertainty will be quantitatively evaluated and documented in reports and/or publications.
•This position will also assist in organizing a NREL hosted workshop on PV Calibration Issues and Efforts to Reduce the Uncertainty.
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
•Experienced in Labview.
•Understanding of current vs. voltage instrumentation.
•Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
•Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
•Self-motivated, creative, able to work well both in teams and independently, good judgment, clear sense of purpose and personal responsibility.
•Basic PV semiconductor device theory.

Demonstrates complete understanding and wide applicaton of scientific technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.
Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilites. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good technical writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
•Knowledge and experience with photovoltaic materials and devices.
•Experience with uncertainty analysis
•Experience with Current versus voltage measurements
•Knowledge of PV device theory.
