Description

Applications are invited for one postdoctoral research assistant and two postgraduate research assistants, available from 1 September 2012. These are two-year fixed-term appointments in the first instance, with a possibility of extension for a third year.

The positions, which are funded by Defra, offer opportunities for three outstanding researchers to investigate the epidemiological consequences of contact between cattle and badgers. The positions will entail extensive fieldwork in Cornwall.

The positions involve collaboration between the Institute of Zoology (www.zsl.org/science/research) and the MRC Centre for Outbreak Analysis and Modelling at Imperial College London (http://www1.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/about/institutes/outbreaks).

Candidates for all three positions are expected to have a relevant degree, substantial experience of ecological fieldwork, a clean driving licence, and the excellent communication skills needed to interface with stakeholders in a controversial topic. Experience with automated data collection systems (such as GPS collars and/or CCTV) and animal handling would be an advantage. Candidates for the postdoctoral position should also have a Ph.D., relevant experience in the analysis of ecological and/or epidemiological data, and experience of team leadership.

Applications should include a covering letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and full contact details of three referees (including the candidate's Ph.D. supervisor for the postdoctoral position). For informal enquiries, contact Dr Rosie Woodroffe (rosie.woodroffe@ioz.ac.uk).

Applications should be sent to: Human Resources, Zoological Society of London, Regent’s Park, London, NW1 4RY, (or by e-mail to hr@zsl.org)

Closing date: June 21st 2012

(Interviews to be conducted in London on July 2nd 2012)
