Description

The Department of Wind Energy in the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Wind Energy) is seeking a Postdoc or Researcher for the Wind Energy Systems Section (WES).

You will be part of the international team carrying out research in Wind Energy Systems. We direct the research towards issues that are relevant for industrial development and applications, and we work in projects with system integration, control concepts for wind turbines, wind power plants, electrical components, grid connection and large-scale wind energy penetration.

Job profile
The Postdoc/Researcher will contribute to the development of models for wind power in power system simulation tools such as Power Factory (DIgSILENT) and Eurostag, and in more general simulation tools like Matlab Simulink and Modelica. This will be part of different projects including the European iTesla-project.eu on security of future power systems, challenged by large scale renewable energy and increased cross boarder trading of power. The iTesla-project is conducted by European transmission system operators (TSOs) in cooperation with selected European universities and other partners.

DTU Wind Energy has more than 10 years experience with dynamic modelling and control of wind power in power systems, and the Postdoc/Researcher will work in a team with experience in development, implementation and standardisation in the area.

The purpose of the modelling and control work area is to develop and validate models and controls for wind power plants. This includes the following items:

  • Steady state and dynamic modelling and control of wind power plants and other renewable generation
  • Aggregated models of wind turbines in large onshore and offshore wind power plants (wind farms)
  • Aggregated models of wind turbines and other renewable generation in distribution networks
  • Validation of the above models, including aggregation approaches
  • Development and simulation based validation of control strategies for advanced wind power plant controls aiming at better power system integration.
  • Development and assessment of wind power plants capabilities of providing system services

Qualifications

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in Power System or Electrical Engineering
  • Background in power system and / or wind power technology and control
  • Experience with one or more dedicated power system simulations tool such as Power Factory, Eurostag or PSS/E
  • Ability to work independently towards the research goals
  • Fluency in communicating, reading and writing in English

We offer
We offer a challenging career with the possibility to play an active role in the development of wind power in one of the key wind energy research departments worldwide.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The place of work is The Wind Energy Department, Risø Campus in Roskilde. The period of employment is 3 years.
