The Global Environment Monitoring Unit is looking for a scientific/technical officer to provide scientific and technical support to further research and development in the Systematic Observations of Land and Ocean (SOLO) action. In this action, R&D activities are conducted to take advantage of the data acquired by satellite sensors and to generate, in collaboration with the Space Agencies, land and ocean climate as well as environmental products. Quality, reliability and accuracy of satellite products are assessed through laboratory and in situ benchmarking activities; new algorithms are developed to increase their relevance as physical parameters in climate studies and international networks supported to ensure global acceptability of products. In the context of the proposed project, the main objective is to work on a 15 year time-series of land surface satellite derived products (e.g FAPAR) to define and implement a variety of indicators linked to phenology, primary production and vegetation variability and change.
