Description

The BIOMES action of the Rural Water and
Ecosystem Resources develops models to map
ecosystem services supporting policy decisions
in biodiversity and related policy domains.
Ecosystems in Europe face serious threats from
land use and climate change and different forms
of pollution and exploitation. The risk is that
their resilience is eroded resulting in a shift to a
less favorable state characterized by poor
biodiversity and decreased provision of
ecosystem services. This project will provide a
model based risk assessment addressing the
probability of regime shifts in different terrestrial
and marine ecosystems. The model approach
consists in collecting at a broad scale drivers and
pressures affecting biodiversity. This spatial
dataset needs to be coupled to descriptors
capturing the properties of ecosystems (food
web structure, material flows) which are known
to be either sensitive or robust to absorb shocks
or threshold effects.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in
ecology or a related field (or a University degree
in this subject area and 5 years of research
experience after the university degree giving
access to doctoral studies). Experience in the
field of ecological modeling is required.
Knowledge of spatial data assessment using GIS
and statistical and dynamic modeling
approaches is essential. Relevant publications
and presentations should be highlighted.
Good knowledge of spoken and written English is
required. The knowledge of another community
language would be an advantage.
The Joint Research Centre is an equal
opportunity employer and is committed to
increasing the diversity of its staff. It welcomes
applications from women and minority groups.
