The AGRI-ENV Action (Rural, Water and Ecosystem Unit within the Institute for Environment and Sustainability) assesses how environmental concerns are integrated into agricultural policy. In the context of the project (LC-FARM), the objective is to develop a scheme targeted to the whole farming sector to encourage low carbon farming practices. The project will aim at assessing the possibility to incorporate carbonneutral or low emissions farming practices into policy approaches, possibly via certification, so as to promote reduction of global warming emissions from agriculture. The candidate selected will mainly assist in (i) the analysis of existing climate-related certification schemes with impact on farming in the EU; (ii) the scientific evaluation of existing carbon assessment methods for farms: (iii) the refinement of a suitable carbon calculator; (iv) drafting of technical reports. He/she will also participate in the reflection on the best policy and certification options that could be underpinned by the carbon calculator and the administration and governance structure needed for its implementation. The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Agriculture and Environment or related field (or a University degree and 5 years of research experience after the university degree giving access to doctoral studies). Experience in the field of greenhouse gases emission from agriculture and on-farm mitigation measures is required. Ideally, our new colleague will also bring expertise in certification schemes and have a good overview on other environmental priorities (biodiversity,
IES 2010 Selection Procedure for Cat. 30 Grantholders water quality, soil quality…). This aspect will be taken into account in the calculator assessment and development. The candidate must have good communication skills, team spirit and be able to maintain effective working relations with other units within the JRC.
