Description

Are you an experienced policy professional?

Are you a strategic thinker with a strong interest in sustainability?

If so, then we'd love to hear from you!

This is an exciting role as one of two policy leads for the funding elements of the Revenue Certainty Mechanism (RCM) for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Increasing the use of SAF is a key part of the Government’s strategy to reduce aviation emissions. The Government committed in the King’s Speech to introducing a Bill that creates a RCM for SAF producers who are looking to invest in new plants in the UK.

Job description

This role will develop, evaluate and then implement the funding elements of the RCM, working across professions within DfT, with other Government Departments, particularly HM Treasury and with the aviation industry.

Duties and responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and then implementing the funding policy for the Revenue Certainty Mechanism. As well as identifying funding sources, this will consider how the RCM will operate in practice, including how RCM contracts will be allocated.
  • Working in partnership with legal, analytical, commercial and corporate finance teams to develop policy. Engaging with stakeholders in industry, HMT and other government departments
  • Providing policy support to the SAF RCM Bill team as the Bill is taken through Parliament.
  • Contribute to leading the SAF Commercialisation team and wider Low Carbon Fuels team.

Person specification

This role would suit a highly motivated and strategic thinker with a strong interest in sustainability, decarbonisation, and the development of innovative policy solutions. Ideal candidates will have exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as experience in policy development and implementation. They should be adept at managing complex projects, working collaboratively across government departments, and engaging effectively with industry stakeholders.

A strong communicator and team player, the individual will thrive in navigating challenges, such as balancing environmental goals with economic opportunities. The role will particularly appeal to someone passionate about shaping the future of sustainable aviation and committed to achieving impactful, long-term change.
