We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support CDP’s policy engagement work in Continental Europe. In your role as Policy Engagement Manager in the Policy & Public Affairs team, you will accelerate our mission and inform and motivate European policymakers with expertise, enthusiasm and endurance on the journey to create a conductive policy environment that effectively limits climate change, improves water stewardship and halts deforestation.
The role includes:
- Provide strategic advice in relation to policy processes and key intervention points in coordination with the other European stakeholder engagement teams and the global policy team;
- Develop and maintain the network of EU and Member States’ policymakers and external partners in order to influence key policy outcomes related to CDP’s goals and engagement strategy;
- Identify EU and national policy levers and enabling conditions for effective engagement, awareness raising and capacity building;
- Prepare high-quality briefing materials, position papers and responses to consultations on the basis of CDP data, insights and expertise gained through CDP’s direct work with companies, investors, cities, states and regions;
- Facilitate CDP’s participation in expert working groups, meetings, roundtables and conferences, secure government speakers for CDP events and lead on policy briefings for CDP staff;
- Find solutions to overcome policy obstacles, drawing from CDP data and insights from operational and thematic teams and effectively communicate them externally;
- Contribute to fulfilling the European and global government engagement strategy and work programmes;
- Assisting with ad-hoc tasks as required.
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum BA/BSc degree or similar work experience;
- Proven experience in working with policymakers, additional experience at corporate or investor government relations or city sustainability departments is an advantage;
- Sound understanding of EU and national regulatory frameworks in the areas of corporate and financial markets transparency and governance, climate and environment, and public procurement;
- Proven track record in developing policy positions, briefings or reports and submissions to public consultations;
- Enjoy working with people and policymakers for a good purpose;
- Keen interest in understanding of business, investor and cities, states and regions perspectives on environmental reporting and action;
- Good public speaking skills and confidence in interacting with high-level representatives from public and private sectors, using determination and diplomacy;
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills and ability to work with teams in a multi-national setting;
- Demonstratable ability to take the initiative, multi-task, prioritise and work under pressure;
- Strong analytical, creative and pragmatic problem-solving skills;
- Attention to detail with good research, writing and drafting skills;
- Willingness to travel across continental Europe occasionally;
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point) and experience with CRM systems;
- Excellent communication skills in English and one other European language (verbal and written), other European languages, notably German and French, are an advantage though not essential.

The successful candidate will work five days per week and must be able to work legally in Belgium. This full-time role is based at our office in Brussels, Belgium, and will work closely with and report to the Director Policy Engagement.
