Description
The Policy Coordinator will be responsible for policy analysis, development and dissemination in furtherance of the Pew Environment Group’s marine conservation program.
        
Main Responsibilities

1.        Provide strategic and political advice to the kellPew Environment Group’s EU marine program. Develop and implement a clear and focused advocacy strategy at the EU and Member State level, including maintaining close contact with and providing educational materials to MEPs, the Permanent Representatives and EU institutions, as well as the Brussels-based NGOs.
2.         Monitor, analyze and influence emerging policy proposals from the European Commission on issues related to the Common Fisheries Policy. Comment on Commission draft communications, regulations, and white papers.
3.        Devise strategies for the dissemination of policy documents, including through submission to journals, policy briefings, conferences, hearings, and other intervention opportunities. Project-manage such activities, attend events and act as a press spokesperson when appropriate.
Requirements

•        A minimum of eight years of experience in EU policy analysis and effective advocacy (i.e. with proven results) in relation to international conservation issues, with a particular emphasis on marine fisheries. Excellent knowledge of the decision making processes of the EU institutions.

•        Access to a strong network of relevant contacts among the EU representation of international conservation organizations, policy makers, and staff of the EU institutions and the permanent representatives of Member States.

•        Demonstrated strong analytical skills. Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and to focus quickly on the essence of an issue/problem. Excellent knowledge of the current trends, principal theories, leading thinkers and major concerns on marine conservation issues.

•        Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization. Able to develop and move projects forward with a high degree of independence and autonomy, yet working in a cooperative spirit in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.

•        Excellent and compelling written and oral communications skills, including a working knowledge of several European languages. Strong oral, presentation, facilitation, and written communication skills such that complex ideas, thoughts and concepts are clearly articulated for different audiences. Clear, effective writing style. A strong connection with international conservation communities is highly desirable.

•        Strong interpersonal skills; able to develop and manage productive relationships with decision makers at the highest level, media, Pew staff, consultants, partners and others. Must exhibit flexibility and a commitment to working as part of a team. Excellent listening skills. Highly articulate.

•        Ability and preparedness to travel within Europe, the US and elsewhere. Availability outside normal business hours will be required frequently.

•        Masters (or higher) degree in a relevant area or equivalent experience

•        Effective use of basic Microsoft Office Suite software.
