The postholder will be one of SNH's Species Advisers providing providing technical advice on species casework and policy issues primarily to SNH Area colleagues. There will be four main areas of work
1. To provide specialist advice on bird issues arising from casework enquiries. Currently many of these are related to the impact of proposed wind farms on protected bird populations. 2. To aid the implementation of the EC Birds Directive and Ramsar Convention in Scotland. Possible workloads include a review of existing sites and the designation of offshore SPA. 3. To develop generic information and policy to help customers form an opinion on the impact of developments on protected birds. 4. To assist with other SNH targets requiring specialist ornithological input. This may include site condition monitoring, developing and managing research and survey contracts, and developing and maintaining partnerships with other research and conservation agencies in Scotland in order to benefit the provision of advice and the conservation of species.
