Description

We are seeking an adaptable research scientist with an international reputation and a track record of initiating and conducting quality research within agricultural and mixed use landscapes.  The position requires a person who will provide scientific leadership and create business opportunities that are aligned with our research priorities.  It is envisaged that the successful candidate will develop a significant leadership role within the Agricultural Landscapes Program and the Sustainable Ecosystems Division.

The successful candidate will lead research projects across the broad area of ecological sustainability in rural landscapes.  An ability to work across a range of spatial scales from local, enterprise, landscape to regional is required.  Skills in vegetation science are a primary (but not exclusive) requirement of this position. The successful scientist will place strong emphasis on achieving natural resource management outcomes, whilst maintaining links to, and advancing, the theoretical basis of the science.

The position requires skills in team and people management, and active engagement in partnerships across CSIRO, and with natural resource, rural industry and government agencies. Through engagement with a range of disciplines, the position offers great potential to develop new approaches to the study of the ecological, economic and social dimensions of agricultural landscape function.
