The PhD fellowship research work is to be focussed in atmospheric dispersion and photochemical reactions in the atmosphere. The research work is intended to contribute to the improvement of the current state of the art of dispersion models with embedded photo-chemistry by adding amines chemistry to the pre-existing photochemical scheme. The PhD candidate will be responsible for the inclusion of new chemical and physical amine related processes into the state-of-art WRF-Chem. model The University of Oslo (UiO), and NILU will collaborate closely by supervising the PhD student at UiO.
The scientific work under this PhD position is directly linked to the project Amine Emission during Carbon Capture Phase II: Experimental study Investigating Risk of selected Amines”. This is a KMB project under the CLIMIT program in the Research Council of Norway. The industrial partners in this project are Statoil, Shell technology Norway and Vattenfall. The following requirements to the applicant are essential:
- Applicants must have obtained undergraduate (BSc level or equivalent) and graduate (MSc level or equivalent) qualifications in natural sciences (e.g. meteorology, physics or computational/applied mathematics, including fluid mechanics)
- Computational skills, experience with programming in Fortran 90 and script languages
- Documented good knowledge of English, compliant with international certificates
Other preferred qualities of the applicant:
- Understanding of atmospheric chemistry
- Experience with use of numerical methods
- Experience with use of numerical chemical transport models methods
- Experience with use of the WRF-Chem model
The PhD position is for 3 years full time and is compensated after State salary scale. (NOK 365.100 the first year rising to NOK 390.400 third year) The position is available from winter 2011. NILU offers competitive benefits as group life-/ accident insurances and pension.
