People and Conservation Manager Table Mountain National Park Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Promote and build the partnership between SANParks (TMNP) and the City of Cape Town, our principal partner. • Promote partnerships with the citizens of Cape Town by launching community programmes that advance conservation. • Create effective mechanisms for ongoing communication with stakeholders, including the management of the Park Forum. • Provide leadership to the three People and Conservation Officers within the park. • Provide strategic guidance to the Communications Manager. • Provide guidance to Park Management as to the nature of the different communities of Cape Town. • Develop an effective community education and environmental awareness strategy. • Develop a network of support for the Park amongst the schools and hiking clubs of Cape Town. primarily on the Cape Flats, to promote links between youth of different backgrounds. • Develop programmes that promote the relationship of the different cultures of Cape Town to nature, to enable people to take responsibility for conserving their bio-and-cultural diversity. • Develop mutually beneficial partnerships with communities and interest groups to promote empowerment of neighbouring poor communities. • Promote socio-economic upliftment through tourism opportunities. • Provide leadership in the development of systems for procuring contract labour for social development opportunities to the Park. • Devise and lead a program of contractor development and training. • Developing programmes that advance indigenous knowledge of the region and its direct relationship to the cultural heritage resources within the TMNP. • Devise a strategy and procedures to implement the Heritage Resources Management Plan. • Compile and implement a training program to ensure that staff at all levels are fully conversant with the requirements of the Heritage Resources Management Plan. This will include a continuous updating of the information layers as well as advising on the Heritage impact assessments as required.
Requirements: • A Diploma in Nature Conservation, Environmental Education or Degree in Social Sciences with 5 years practical experience, or a minimum of 10 years relevant practical experience (in the absence of a Degree or Diploma). • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially MS Word, Excel and Power point. • Code 08 driver’s license. • Good written, communication skills and liaison skills. • Own accommodation is essential (no staff housing is currently available in the Park).
