Trygg Mat Tracking is a non-governmental organisation that provides national fisheries authorities and international organisations with fisheries intelligence and analysis, in support of enforcement actions and broader improvements in fisheries governance. Our work is primarily focused on targeting illegal fishing and associated crime in and near African waters. Information gathering and analysis from a wide range of sources is a cornerstone of our work, which is based on a large and growing database and archive of information on vessel and company identities, operations, and compliance with national and international laws. We are recruiting a paid Intern to support the maintenance of TMT’s database and archive and contribute to associated research that will support our fisheries analysts. This person will work closely with TMT’s Analytical Team to update the database and archive with information, including vessel photographs and news stories. They will also be responsible for daily media monitoring, to identify and record any relevant new information into TMT’s database. There may also be opportunities to conduct some research in support of TMT’s activities and country partners. The successful applicant will gain valuable experience of working for a small and dynamic international NGO and will have an opportunity to build their knowledge and understanding of illegal fishing and associated crime. This is a three-month, part time contract (three days per week) based at our office in West London (nearest tube: Westbourne Park), with possibility of extension. All equipment and training are provided.
• Archiving of vessel photographs, documents, reports into TMT’s systems; update TMT’s database with any new vessel and company identity information contained in these information sources. • Monitoring of daily media alerts – identify relevant articles and enter into the TMT Archive. • Research support as identified
• Fluent in English • Relevant academic degree • Knowledge and understanding of international fisheries and illegal fishing • Detail oriented • Organised and self-motivated
• Knowledge of other relevant languages, e.g. French, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia, Russian, Portuguese • Experience with database or archive maintenance
• Derive strong motivation from working for a good cause; • Quickly learn new skills and systems
