Description |
The APEC Climate Center was established with the endorsement of APEC Senior Officials in 2005. Its mandate is to provide climate information services to the 21 APEC member economies in order to promote human security and protect life and property from the hazards associated with extreme climate events. Since its establishment, APCC has steadily gained momentum in becoming a leading provider of various climate forecast products and capacity building programs in the region. Currently, APCC is expanding its areas of research and services to cater to wider socio-economic needs and interests.
The APEC Climate Center (APCC), located in Busan, Korea, is looking for motivated researchers for the positions described below:
Job Postings
Climate Sciences
POSTING I. Climate prediction and analysis
- Climate prediction in subseasonal to seasonal time and global scale - Global climate modeling - Developing and improving climate prediction system (computationally and theoretically) - Analysis of climate feedbacks and assessment of climate predictability
Interdisciplinary Research
POSTING II. Agro-meteorology/Agronomy/Plant Science
- Environmental (or abiotic) stresses to crop productivity and crop growth and yield modeling
POSTING III. Water resources management
- Predicting and analyzing flood inundation - Flooding risk assessment
POSTING IV. Climate risk management and disaster risk reduction
- Risk assessment associated with climate variability and climate change and development of measures to reduce the risk of climate-induced disasters
POSTING V. Health
- Assessment of climate impacts on human health; impacts from Heat Waves, Extreme Weather Events, Reduced Air Quality, Climate-Sensitive Diseases(Food-borne Diseases, Water-borne Diseases, Animal-borne Diseases, etc.), and other health linkages - Research on potential solutions to the long-term threats to human health caused by climate change
POSTING VI. Ecosystems
- Assessment of climate impacts on ecosystems; changes in the Timing of Seasonal Life-Cycle Events, Range Shifts, Food Web Disruptions, Threshold Effects, Pathogens/Parasites/and Disease, Extinction risks, etc. - Research on potential solutions to the long-term threats to animals and/or plants caused by climate change
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants should have a Ph.D. in relevant fields - At least 2 years’ experience in a relevant field is preferred
