Reductions in the body size of birds and mammals are a recently documented and poorly understood ecological correlate of climate change. Improving knowledge of the patterns and mechanisms of size change promises to improve the management of species and ecosystems in the face of climate change.
We require a postdoctoral fellow to research the nature and extent of size declines in Australian birds, using data from museum specimens and other sources. In collaboration with others, the Fellow will use these data to investigate the physiological costs of species’ responses to climate change, and explore the adaptive capacity of species and groups vulnerable to climate change.
