Description

Scottish Episcopal Church

Net Zero Innovation Coordinator

Starting Salary   £26-33k plus benefits      Job type Remote based - Full time – 3-year contract.

Do you want to join a new team committed to climate action and delivering change? Do you have a passion for training and equipping communities? Can you find innovative solutions to net zero problems? This role is for someone with a creative and collaborative approach to problem solving and strong skills in net zero training and resourcing.

The Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC) has a published Net Zero Action Plan 2023-30 and is building a flexible and enthusiastic team to support the implementation of its ambitious Net Zero targets.  It seeks experienced net zero specialists to provide support and guidance to churches and Dioceses.

About the Job: You will have equal opportunity to work at both national and regional levels.

You will develop and coordinate an innovative national training programme to be delivered across Episcopal communities to facilitate the delivery of net zero 2030. You will collaboratively develop communication plans to nurture behaviour change and engagement while using your skills in training and resourcing to improve understanding and uptake of climate actions across the SEC. You will seek out learning and partnership opportunities to keep Dioceses and churches equipped with solutions to further grow the SEC’s Net Zero experience base.

You will also play a key role in direct engagement with individual Dioceses, working alongside the rest of the Net Zero Team to nurture relationships and help them develop their own action plans. You will use your knowledge and experience of net zero to provide innovative solutions and coordinate your learning programme towards national engagement.

About you: You should have experience working with community groups, particularly in leading, training or learning programmes. You should have excellent problem solving, interpersonal, and written communication skills and demonstrable knowledge of practical net zero solutions and an ability to communicate these to a range of faith-based audiences.

Things you need to know: You will report to the Net Zero Delivery Director and work within a new Net Zero Team to support the SEC’s seven Dioceses (regions). This role will be remote based, however regular travel to Dioceses across Scotland will be required as well as attendance at routine meetings in the General Synod Office in Edinburgh where you will meet with the rest of your team. You may be required to work some evenings and weekends.

The SEC comprises some 300 churches, with a total membership of about 24,000. The Net Zero Delivery Director is coordinating the new team and will be appointing 5 new posts.  The first round of posts to be advertised are Innovation Coordinator, Empowerment Coordinator, and Carbon Projects and Data Officer. A role focused on Sustainability and another on Heating and Energy will follow swiftly after.

All postholders will work closely as a team and provide progress reports and advice as necessary.

Starting salary is dependent on experience.

Benefits: flexible working, working from home within a remote team; non-contributory final salary pension scheme
