Description

The candidate will work in the Renewable Energy Unit,
in support to the Biofuels Thematic Programme.  He/she
will work in close cooperation with a team of experts,
being involved in the studies related to the assessment
of biofuels/bioenergy sustainability. The work in
particular will be devoted to the analysis of the direct and
indirect GHG emissions from biofuels/bioenergy
production and use, taking into consideration future
scenarios, biofuels shares  and compositions, future
fossil fuel comparators, industrial processes, markets
etc.

Activities will focus on:

- Update and further develop GHG emissions
methodology of new and existing biofuels pathways in
line with Fuel Quality Directive and Renewable Energy
Directives recommendations. This work will also include
an analysis of reference fossil fuels comparator and of
GHG intensity factors that can be utilized by suppliers
for estimating the GHG intensity of the product they
place on the EU market.
- In view of an expected increase in the consumption of
alternative fuels in different transport modes (e.g.
aviation), and taking into  account the sustainability
issues related to “conventional” 1st generation biofuels
and the need to diversify fuel sources, the workplan of
the candidate should also look on the availability of biofuels (in particular advanced 2
nd and 3rd generation biofuels) in the EU27, the New Member States and
potential Candidate Countries.

The candidate will be also  encouraged to contribute to
international conferences and  workshop, and to publish
results of the studies in peer-reviewed journals
