Conduct and summarize analysis on renewable and distributed energy systems including integration with electrical power systems, and deployment of technology. Work would focus on conducting analysis, technology and project assessments for distributed generation equipment that utilize photovoltaics, wind turbines, batteries, conventional generations, and inverters. Support the deployment of these technologies by conducting simulation studies for a variety of scenarios of interconnections of distributed generation and electrical distribution systems, both interconnected and isolated. Support project development as required through assessments of design plans, engineering review, bid document development and specification support. Work with interested parties to support the implementation of microgrid concepts in physical projects
Perform activities to support the deployment of renewable and distributed energy systems including integration with electrical power systems. This work would focus on supporting the deployment of renewable technologies in remote or distributed energy settings, incorporating, as appropriate, the latest in microgrid concepts relating to power generation and load control. Assess electrical work relating to distributed generation equipment utilizing photovoltaics, wind, fuel cells, batteries, turbines, and inverters. Conduct simulation studies for a variety of scenarios of interconnections of distributed generation and electrical distribution systems. Apply developed models such as the ETAP, PSCAD, Open DSS, Simulink and Distributed Engineering Workstation(DEW) to the analysis of potential systems. Provide reports on technical work and input to technical publications and presentations.
Relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
General knowledge and application of engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.

Training in team, task or project leadership responsibilities. Intermediate abilities and knowledge of practices and techniques. Beginning experience in project management. Good writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
Basic applied experience in electrical engineering with specialty in power systems analysis, distributed energy systems, or advanced distribution system concepts (smart grids and microgrids). Familiarity with power generation, power distribution system controls, metering equipment, interconnection standards, cyber security and communication systems a plus. Experience with electrical system simulation programs (e.g., Powerworld, PSS/E, PSLF, Synergee, Distributed Engineering Workstation (DEW), Matlab/SimPower Systems, Simulink). Ability to perform detailed technical analysis. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Required attributes include strong verbal, presentation, and technical writing abilities; sound interpersonal communication, creativity, innovativeness, and adaptability.
Master’s Degree in electrical engineering or other engineering or science program. The ideal candidate for this role is someone with microgrid network design and integration experience. Demonstrated technical knowledge of engineering practices, procedures, and techniques. Detailed understanding of smart grid or microgrid technology relating to both demand and supply side applications. Experience with installing instrumentation, data collection, communications systems, protection schemes, utilities and control systems is desirable. Ability to work well in a team or independently with limited supervision and lead team activities.
