Market Analyst – Internship Description

AIDG Overview:

The Appropriate Infrastructure Development Group (AIDG) works to provide rural villages in developing countries with affordable and environmentally sound technologies that meet their needs for electricity, sanitation and clean water. Through a combination of business incubation, education, training and outreach, AIDG helps individuals and communities gain access to technology that will improve their lives. In support of AIDG’s mission, the Internship Program seeks to provide assistance to AIDG’s incubated businesses and technology research and development through specialized training and product investigation and development, bringing in talented young professionals and experts from around the world with a passion to contribute to the developing world and help make a difference.

Presently, AIDG-Guatemala is seeking candidates with expertise in marketing analysis, preferably with experience in product development or product analysis, to work with our Technology R&D program in Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala. Market Analysis Intern Position:

This role will require the successful applicant to:

Ø       Build upon existing work and develop guidelines for conducting market analysis in different stages of the product development process.

Ø       Work with AIDG Guatemala staff to apply these guidelines in several different technology development projects that are in different stages in the product development process.

Ø       Plan and implement collection of customer feedback for a design update of the Rocket Box efficient woodstove.

This is a full-time position with a minimum commitment of 6 months. Overall the position will require the applicant to work from 8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. A few days a week will be devoted to the above projects, while the remaining time will be spent working with AIDG by assisting in general marketing and branding strategies and on other project work as required.

The successful applicant will be expected to be able to contribute to several multi-disciplinary project teams.   

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants interested in this Internship should possess the following skills:

·         Prior experience working on product-centered market analysis.  Understanding of the tools necessary to gather relevant information from customers such as desired features, target price-point, etc.

·         Understanding of the tools necessary to gather relevant information about market forces and environment.

·         Basic understanding and experience working with sustainable, appropriate technologies

·         Advanced level of Spanish speaking/written ability (essential)

All applicants should have a willingness to get hands-on and dirty, possess a good sense of humor and the ability to work independently. They should be versatile, mature, highly motivated and friendly. Prior international experience is desirable.  The internship starts in January 2010.
