Marine Biology Instructors Catalina Island CA
Spring/Fall positions available. If you have a love for the ocean and a passion for youth, this opportunity is for you! Teach marine science to students in grades 4-12 on Catalina Island, off the coast of California. 88% of Catalina's 75 square miles are protected against development. In this setting we conduct hands on learning at its best, using our fine indoor laboratories and our beautiful outdoor coastal learning areas. Our program is mentally and physically challenging, and we expect much of our instructors. We teach students snorkeling, marine labs, kayaking, hiking, high ropes, squid dissection, deep sea and other programs in a variety of weather conditions. Piloting small vessels is part of their daily duties. Compensation: Paid training, room and board, competitive hourly wages, and health benefits after 60 days of employment. Program equipment such as kayaks and boats are available for staff during their time off, after the appropriate training. Qualifications: Required: -Minimum BS or BA degree in Marine Biology or related science -Excellent water skills i.e .(snorkeling, swimming, diving, or lifeguarding) -Flexibility and ability to work with others as a team and live in a rural setting is essential Preferred: -Experience working with kids -Current certification in Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR are a plus, but we will train you at no cost -Teaching experience with youth highly desired |
