The Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.

Position Summary: 

The Manager, Learning & Development will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Rainforest Alliance’s organization-wide learning initiatives. positions/he will assess learning needs and develop and implement solutions that are aligned with the Rainforest Alliance’s organizational goals.

Responsibilties: 
  • Conduct Learning & Development (L&D) needs assessments to identify individual, divisional and organizational  training needs;
  • Prepare a L&D strategic plan, annual work plan and budget;
  • Coordinate with internal subject matter experts on ensuring synergies of tools and systems used organization-wide;
  • Establish partnerships and alliances with various institutions/vendors to implement effective learning programs;
  • Develop and implement monitoring tools to measure the effectiveness of the Rainforest Alliance staff trainings;
  • Develop and conduct staff training; as well as, develop the skills and capacity of in-house trainers;
  • Catalogue and assess with appropriate staff  all current training deliveries (i.e. new hire orientations) and tools; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree in Education, People Development, or Organizational Development a plus;
  • 7-10 years learning &development experience, including hands on experience in training, curriculum creation, and organizational development in a global environment;
  • Demonstrated experience with a Learning Management System;
  • Strong computer skills (PowerPoint, MS Office, web-conferencing, and exposure to Web 2.0 technologies);
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Spanish verbal and written skills highly preferred;
  • Ability to work in diverse and fast paced environment;
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented with strong follow-through skills; and
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% both domestically and internationally.
