The Taranaki Regional Council, based in Stratford, has a vacancy for a person with proven, practical experience in biodiversity activities to undertake the management and co-ordination of operational aspects of our biodiversity strategy, with particular reference to key native ecosystems. A tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline would be an advantage. A working knowledge of the Biosecurity Act and the Resource Management Act, and experience in pest management and nature conservation would also be useful. The successful applicant, who will report to the Director-Operations, will maintain effective liaison and advocacy on biodiversity issues with Government departments and agencies, other local authorities, land occupiers and owners, the community and the various community interest groups. Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential, as are negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Experience in administration and financial management capabilities, including an understanding of financial systems and procedures, and reporting is also required.
