The Major Gifts Coordinator will work closely with the Major Gifs Manager and Executive Vice President in areas relating to the major gifts program, including identification, research, stewardship, cultivation and solicitation of unrestricted gifts from individual prospects ($1,000-$4,999).  S/he will aid in coordinating strategies for the retention of existing and lapsed donors and the cultivation of new donors.  S/he will also plan and coordinate cultivation events and trips.

Responsibilties: 
  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the major gifts team as they relate to the cultivation of individual donors for unrestricted gifts;
  • Along with the Major Gifts Manager and Executive Vice President, develop and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies for individual donors and prospects at the $1,000 - $4,999 level;
  • Oversee the donor stewardship process by creating mail and web-based materials to keep donors and prospects engaged with the Rainforest Alliance;
  • Identify new leads for potential major donors;
  • Develop and implement strategies for re-engaging lapsed major donors;
  • Schedule meetings, conduct research and prepare materials for donor/prospect meetings.  Attend meetings with senior staff when appropriate;
  • Ensure timely follow up from donor and prospect meetings by serving as a liaison between senior staff, donors and other development staff;
  • Coordinate major donor cultivation events and eco-trips including researching venues, developing attendee lists, coordinating logistics and promotion, managing vendors and working with local program staff;
  • Coordinate major gifts team to execute all mailings for unrestricted funding including acquisitions, solicitations and renewals, acknowledgement letters;
  • Provide support and coordination for aspects of the Rainforest Alliance’s Leapfrog campaign;
  • Maintain paper and electronic files for the Major Gifts team as needed; and
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • 5-7 years professional experience, including fundraising experience, preferably in a Major Gifts context;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; 
  • Written and verbal proficiency in Spanish a plus;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and Internet) and comfort working with database programs;
  • Knowledgeable user of Raiser’s Edge donor tracking software, preferred;
  •  Excellent interpersonal communication skills with an ability to interact with diverse audiences;
  • Ability to work in a team structure as well as independently, be creative, flexible, take initiative, be attentive to detail;
  • Dependability, diplomacy, good organizational skills and a sense of humor; and
  • Knowledge of and commitment to environmental issues preferred.
